Early Christmas

Well I mailed the christmas package to my daughter, April, two weeks ago. I wanted to make sure the kids gifts were 'under the tree' for christmas. I did not hear back that the package had arrived, so I asked. Lo and Behold those two NOSEY TEENAGERS opened the package and then proceeded to UNWRAP the gifts.... So now Christmas presents have been received I can now show the 'Black, White and Red Allover' twin sized quilt made for Tyler Welch. I used a choice expression when I was told that they had opened the gift early, but I won't share it here.

Adam and Marisa

Here is the happy duo. Adam was at my house last night with Marisa, I caught them in a sweet moment. Adam is the youngest of my 6 children. He recently graduated from UofA with a degree in Linguistic's. He returned to Washington after graduation. He will be going to work in Chile in January 2009. Marisa and Adam met while he was still here in Tucson, last summer. Their friendship has grown and they are a wonderful couple. I am happy to see him smile and laugh and enjoy this part of his life. While they were here they put the lights on the Christmas tree. I was glad that I didn't have to do it this year.

By the way Adam has a birthday on Monday. Dec 8, 1977 was his birthdate. I still remember holding his warm, chubby body in my arms. I am so proud of the MAN you have become Adam. I love you.

Here is TRADITION

Whether they knew it or not, the grandchildren were performing a part of the past traditions of my christmas with my own children. In the '80's' I made and sold Christmas Gingerbread houses and with the help of my own children we made them look marvelous and smell wonderful. This year my daughter, Paula- and her three girls assisted in the tradition of Christmas Gingerbread house building... here is a photo of her, Paula, and the girls, Jordan, Tori and Morgan... in the last 3 yrs I have enjoyed the building of the gingerbread houses with other family members....Aaron and Sonya's family and Cindy's girls.... Also in 2006 Amelia Jacquelyn Lougy was born, I was able to be with the Lougy's during this wonderful event....at that time we also did a 'house' for the kids while waiting for MISS AMELIA to arrive... I know her Mother was worn out but the rest of us had a good time...

Baby Quilt

I have a friend who had her first baby in October. During the summer I started this quilt to give to little "Alex Poag" upon his birth. I had foot surgery in August, so it was the perfect thing to do while unable to use my sewing machine.

The quilt is from a printed design panel entitled Noah's Ark. I had a friend with an embroidery machine and she was able to print out Alex's name for me, and I took that piece and placed it inside the flag that used to bear the title Noah, replaced now with Alex-making it personalized. Pearl Cotton embroidery thread was used to do the hand quilting. I hope that Alex stays warm and cozy when nestled in it.

Pillowcases anyone?

I have made many items this year. From Huge Quilts to small ones.. then placemats, pillowcases, potholders, decorative wall hangings, christmas items, and I am going to make some coasters (which are so needed to protect the end tables). So anyone interested in helping me build a true business website I would welcome the help and interest.

I have sold some of my items this year, and would love to share my fabric art with others.

Here is a sample of the pillowcases.... You cannot see the fine detail work done in the stitching, but I used decorative stitches that are time consuming on each of the pillowcases.

Alexis Lougy's Quilt

‘A Bouquet for Alexis’

I am trying to make my way through the families. With not only quilts but other sewn and handmade items. Some of them I will not show until Christmas is over. Others, I have already given to the receiver.

This quilt was presented to Alexis Lougy in October 2008. I tried to complete it by August but was not able to do so.

The description is as follows:
This quilt is made from 100% cotton fabrics.
Pieced together using the ‘Martha Washington Star’ block pattern which completed each of the 12” blocks.
The free motion machine quilting is an original design.

Bill's Quilt

He said to me, last year... when do I get my quilt? So I set out to do one for him. It was a 8 month project-very detailed and difficult piecing pattern. I chose a pattern called 'Card Trick' that I found in a sampler quilt pattern book.The top of thebquilt is made of Batik fabrics- it is pieced with quarter square triangles; and the backing is 100% cotton domestic fabric. The backing is not pieced it is a full piece of material. The batting is 'Warm & Natural' cotton.

Instead of attempting to quilt this enormous King size quilt I had my local quilt shop owner-Nina Keck- do the longarm machine quilting.

The result is beautiful and I am thrilled that I learned this process. I also am going to enter it into the Quilt Show that will be in March 2009.
